Our skin has a natural skin cell renewal cycle of approximately 30 days. As the skin renews, dead skin cells build up and thicken the Stratum Corneum, the outermost layer of skin, resulting in a dull lifeless complexion. Microdermabrasion gently exfoliates this build up of dead skin cells to reveal younger, smoother and softer skin.
How does Microdermabrasion work?
A fine stream of tiny particles combined with vacuum is traced over the skin from an applicator pen mechanically removing the dead skin cells layers. The whole face and neck is usually treated, however particular attention is paid to the clients specific areas of concern.

What are the immediate results?
Improved skin brightness, softness, a more even colour and a short term plumping to the skin.
How is the treatment carried out?
The skin is cleansed and the practitioner works over the entire face and neck starting with either the neck or the forehead. The applicator pen is moved in short, quick and light strokes over the surface of the skin. After the entire face has been exfoliated any problem areas are addressed further.
Treatments take approximately 30 minutes and include a pre-treatment skin cleanse and the application of post-treatment skin care products.
How does the treatment feel?
Treatments are comfortable with a slight tingling sensation, not unlike mild sand paper rubbing against the skin. A flushed, mild wind burn sensation is experienced for a short time after treatment.
Side effects are not usually experienced however it is not uncommon for the skin to be red for a couple of hours afterwards. The skin may also be dry and flaky for 3 -4 days post treatment.
Aftercare
Sun avoidance is essential. Do not expose the skin to UV (sun exposure or tanning beds) during the course of treatments. Daily use of a high factor, broad spectrum sun block SPF 30+ is strongly advised.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Microdermabrasion is safe for use on all skin colours and types. The treatment is perfect for enlarged pores or spot prone skin, and also offers deep exfoliation for light acne/traumatic scarring and reduces superficial pigment/sun damage.
How many treatments are necessary?
For problematic skin an initial course of 6 – 12 treatments at fortnightly intervals is recommended. However, as the skin is constantly renewing itself and Microdermabrasion is a progressive treatment, monthly treatments will keep skin looking at its best.
Daily use of a high factor, broad spectrum sun block SPF30+ is strongly recommended.
